NASHVILLE TO CELEBRATE ARBOR DAY NEXT FRIDAY

Memorial Trees to be Planted in Centennial Park

WHO: Mayor Karl Dean, Metro Beautification and Environment Commission, Metro Tree Advisory Committee, Nashville Tree Foundation

WHAT: Nashville’s Celebration of National Arbor Day

WHEN: Friday, March 14, 11:00 AM

WHERE: Centennial Park by the Sunken Gardens

Metro’s Arbor Day ceremony will include planting of Memorial Trees in remembrance of the following Nashvillians: Katie M. Allen, Jennifer L. Bozeman, Victor S. Johnson Jr, Patty Lampley, Gwen E. McFarland, James H. Pirtle, Celeste Casey “Cecy” Reed, and Captain Ronald Ward.

Metro Police Officer Danita Marsh will have a tree planted in her honor, as well.

Nashville’s 13th Tree City USA designation and the Nashville Arbor Day Mayoral Proclamation will be presented, and winning Arbor Day essays will be read by area students.

Also, this year’s winner of the George H. Cate, Jr. Award for following or exceeding the spirit and intention of the Metro Nashville Tree Ordinance will be announced. The award honors the former Metro Councilman and Vice Mayor who has been a long-time advocate and proponent of the value and benefits of Nashville’s trees.
