Trash Trucks Visit Schools to Showcase Winners of the ‘Go Green to Keep Nashville Clean’ Art Contest!
Red River Service Corporation Waste Trucks are visiting MNPS elementary schools to showcase the artwork created by 3rd and 4th grade students.
The art contest, now in its fourth year, is sponsored by Red River, Metro Public Works and Metro Nashville Public Schools. More than 100 entries were received from 46 elementary schools. Four winners (grand prize, 2nd place, 3rd place and an Award of Distinction) were selected by a panel of Metro Council and Nashville Arts Coalition members.
The winners’ and finalists’ artwork are displayed on household waste collection trucks as part of a citywide campaign to promote recycling and city beautification. Several of the trucks make a tour of lunch hour stops at participating schools so the finalists’ classmates can view the artwork.
Schedule of 2010 trash truck tour visits.
In honor of the winning students’ entries, their respective school art departments receive $1,500, $1,000, $500 and $250 in prize money from Red River Service Corporation. The collection trucks will be seen by 9,000 people each day as they service their routes.
