METRO HONORS 2007 ‘CUSTODIAN OF THE YEAR’ AWARD WINNERS

Veronica Frazier, Executive Director of Metro Beautification & Environment Commission, congratulates Mr. Leroy Hamer, left, from Dan Mills Elementary School and Mr. Michael Thomas, right, of Dodson Elementary School
on receiving the 2007 Custodian of the Year Award.
Leroy Hamer of Dan Mills Elementary School and Michael Thomas of Dodson Elementary are this year’s winners of the Metro Beautification and Environment Commission’s annual “School Custodian of The Year” contest.
Both men were honored by the Metro Beautification and Environment Commission (MBEC) at an awards ceremony held May 22 at Metro Public Works.
MBEC sponsors the award each year to publicly recognize school custodians for their daily work and dedication to maintaining schools and promoting a positive environment for learning.
“School custodians often work ‘behind the scenes’ but what they contribute to their school’s environment deserves center stage, and the ‘Custodian of the Year’ contest is one way to recognize them and their schools for the work they do,” said Veronica Frazier, Executive Director of Metro Beautification and Environment.
Schools collect information and comments about their custodial staff from students and faculty throughout the year, then submit their recommendation for the award in April.
More information about the award, and comments from faculty and students about Mr. Hamer and Mr. Thomas, are at http://www.nashville.gov/beautification/custodian .
