Parking Meter Time Limits & Enforcement
Parking Meters are placed throughout the Central Business District and the western fringe of the city, including West End Avenue to 31st Avenue and the Vanderbilt Hospital area. The purpose of parking meters is to create turnover and maximize the use of each parking space to accommodate short-term parking demand in the area.
Time Limits: Time limits on meters range from 30 minutes downtown, to 2 hours around doctor office locations and other locations appropriate for longer-term parking. Meters are free all day on Saturdays.
Meter Rates: As of March 1, 2006, rates on parking meters are $1 per hour in the Central Business District, and 75 cents per hour on all others.
Enforcement: On-street parking regulations are enforced by Parking Patrol Officers. They patrol meters, loading zones, fire hydrants, and restricted parking areas. They are also our biggest resource as ambassadors to our city.
Hours of Enforcement: Hours of enforcement on individual meters are displayed at the top inside portion of the meter. The meters are enforced from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Depending on the location, some meters are limited by a peak hour no parking from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is to allow the parking lane to be used for a moving traffic lane during morning and afternoon peak rush-hour demands.
Violation Fees: Over 150,000 parking citations are written annually by the Parking Patrol. Meter time violations are $10. Overtime violations are $15 and violation of handicapped parking is $50. Most other violations such as fire lane, and peak hour parking is $10-$50, depending on the infraction.
