Administrator of Elections

Position

The Administrator of Elections (Administrator) is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Davidson County Election Commission (DCEC) and is responsible for directing and overseeing the Commission’s daily operation and execution of all elections.  The Administrator is the primary spokesperson for the DCEC in communicating with voters, media representatives, government bodies and other organizations interested in the electoral process.

The Administrator is hired by and serves at the pleasure of the five Davidson County Election Commissioners who are appointed for two-year terms by the State Election Commission.

The Administrator has direct and indirect management responsibility for the DCEC Staff consisting of twenty full time employees and a number of part time employees during certain major elections.  Additionally, the DCEC is responsible for recruiting and training approximately fifteen hundred Election Day workers.  Elections normally are held three times a year in even-numbered years and twice a year every four years coinciding with Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County Elections.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Organizational management, supervisory, budgetary and personnel management experience.
  • Strong written, public speaking and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the governmental organization and functions of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County and the State of Tennessee. Knowledge of the information technology field and structure of interoffice and intraoffice computer networks.
  • A resident and registered voter of Davidson County is preferred.
  • Within a reasonable period of time, the Administrator must complete the requirements to become a Certified Administrator of Elections. 

Salary

A starting salary of between $65,000 and $85,000.  A supplement will be added upon becoming a Certified Administrator of Elections.
