Commissioner Lynn Greer
Mr. Greer is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. He received an A.A. degree
from Martin Methodist College~ graduated from Middle Tennessee State University
with a B.S. Degree as well as a Doctor of Humane Letters from Martin Methodist
College.
He began full time employment at Guaranty Mortgage
Company in 1963. On January 27, 1969, he was elected President
of the firm. The company was sold to First American National
Bank in 1972~ he was promoted to Chairman of the Board on June
28, 1974. Mr. Greer resigned as Chairman in August 1975 to
become associated with Greer Investment Company. On March 29,
1976, Mr. Greer was elected President of Greer Investment.
Mr. Greer continues today as President of Greer Investment
Company.
In 1996 Mr. Greer was appointed to a six-year term that expired
in June of 2002 as a Director of the Tennessee Regulatory Authority
(Tennessee's Public Utility Commission)~ he served as the agency's
first Chairman from 1996 to 1998.
As a REALTOR, Mr. Greer has been active in the Nashville Association
of REALTORS, having been honored in 1971 as the REALTOR of
the Year and Board President in 1975. Active as a member of
the Tennessee Association of REALTORS, he was REALTOR of the
Year in 1972 and President in 1986. He is a member of Omega
Tau Rho and has earned the Certified Real Estate Broker (CRB)
designation.
Mr. Greer was appointed to the Tennessee State Board of Education
in 1971 by Governor Winfield Dunn and was reappointed to the
Board by Lamar Alexander in 1980. Mr. Greer served as vice
chairman of the Board. In 1985 Governor Lamar Alexander appointed
Mr. Greer to a term on the Tennessee Housing Development Agency,
where he also served as the board chairman until the expiration
of his term in 1988. In 1993 Mayor Phil Bredesen appointed
Mr. Greer to the Metropolitan Board of Equalization.
He has been a member of the Board of Trustees at Martin Methodist
College in Pulaski, TN, since 1988, where he served as the
Board Chairman from 1992 to 1998. He also served as President
of the Board of Directors (1996-98) and is presently a director
of the Nashville Ballet, where he has performed in a number
of its presentations. He is an alumnus of Leadership Nashville.
In 1987 Middle Tennessee State University honored Mr. Greer
with the Distinguished Alumni Award. He was President of the MTSU Foundation
in 1970 and was a member of the Athletics Study Committee in 1993 as well
as Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the School of Business. He was
a founding Trustee of Brentwood Academy in 1969 and served two terms on
that board. He was also a trustee for the Benton Hall School.
