Unified Flood Preparedness Plan
Mayor Karl Dean has created a special team to identify and evaluate flood damage reduction measures on the Cumberland River and its five major tributaries – Harpeth River, Whites Creek, Browns Creek, Mills Creek and Richland Creek – through a collaborative effort with stakeholders at the local, state and federal levels.
The team, coordinated by Metro Water Services and guided by an advisory committee, is charged with developing a list of possible flood mitigation projects, and the criteria and metrics for evaluating and prioritizing those projects.
The public will be able to hear about this plan in three phases of public meetings. The first phase, which took place in July 2011, offered an opportunity for the public to hear about the project and provide initial input and ideas. In the second phase of public meetings, held in February 2012, the team presented a progress update to attendees. The third phase of meetings, to be held in the summer of 2012, will be a presentation of the final draft of the proposed plan for comment.
Throughout this process, everyone is encouraged to provide feedback by emailing floodprepare@nashville.gov.
