Shemeka Turner has been award $3,500 to facilitate “The Lionheart classes and Dance-a-thon, ” which are used to incorporate all forms of dance in the creation of balance, mentally and physically. Lionheart classes will be offered free of charge to our lower-income citizens and are offered 4 days a week for 1 hour lasting one month leading up to the final dance-a-thon performance. The 18 classes focus on healthy living through physical activity – dance as a positive lifestyle choice. These classes have been a part of the community for one year now with marked success in the target community - our lower-income citizens with limited access to organized dance and recreational activities. The classes will culminate into a Dance-a-thon, where we will invite the community through word of mouth, the Looby Library, area churches, and the Nashville Peacemakers. The final performance will be held at the Looby Center on June 10.
