Fire Recruit (Entry-level Fire Fighter)
Applications for the Fire Recruit position are accepted by the NFD, once yearly – usually at the beginning of the year. In order to be considered for this position you must submit a completed application online. The Fire Recruit position requires a physical agility examination and written examination.
Once your application has been evaluated and accepted, you will be notified, via e-mail, of testing dates, times and locations. If you are successful in the pre-employment testing, you will be placed on the eligibility list. This list is used by the NFD to appoint for future positions.
Requirements for the Fire Recruit Position:
- Must be 21 years of age and a U.S. Citizen (at time of hire).
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Meet NFPA Standard 1582 Medical Requirements for Fire Fighters

EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Positions
Requirements to work as a Paramedic or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT):
- Must be 21 years of age and a U.S. Citizen (at time of hire).
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- State of Tennessee AEMT or Paramedic License
