Healthy Nashville Leadership Council
Description
This council was originally established in 2002 by Mayor Bill Purcell Executive Order 19 and has been in existence continuously. The current membership and work is in place through Executive Order 27 by Mayor Megan Barry.
The Healthy Nashville Leadership Council is responsible for drawing attention to important public health problems and encouraging ownership of their solutions. Community-wide action is required to improve health- including action by individuals, families, schools, employers and businesses, community groups, religious communities, and government.
The current work of the council is outlined in the 2020-2022 Community Health Improvement Plan. This plan represents five key systems issues for the community to address over the next 3 years: access and coordination of resources, access to affordable health care, equity, addressing basic needs and social determinants, support mental health and reduce toxic stress. This plan is a roadmap to align various initiatives, programs, and activities to improve the health of the Nashville community.
Per its mission statement the council “Seeks to improve health and quality of life for those who live, work, learn, worship, and play in Nashville.” In 2018, the Council adopted the vision statement “A healthy Nashville has a culture of compassion and well-being where all people belong, thrive and prosper”.
