Metro Public Health Department Services in Metro Nashville Public Schools

The Metro Public Health Department is proud to provide a wide variety of services to Metro Nashville Public Schools as part of our mission to protect, improve and sustain the health and well-being of all students.

School Health Nurses

School health nurses are available to every school within the MNPS system. Registered nurses provide skilled nursing services to students who need care, as determined by their health care provider, in order to attend school. School nurses provide a wide range of resources to school communities. Every school has the ability to consult with their assigned nurse. If you have a question about school health nurses please call 615-340-7781. Our main goal is to keep students present at school, healthy and ready to learn!

Dental Program

The Health Department’s Dental Program provides dental sealants, screening and referral, and dental education to students in schools. Your school nurse can help facilitate scheduling these services or you may call the Dental Program directly at 615-340-5601.

Food Safety Inspection of School Cafeterias

The Health Department’s Food Division staff conducts two unannounced inspections of school cafeterias each school year. Food inspectors schedule re-inspections when a problem is found that requires a re-inspection.

Health Department Clinic Services

Our three health centers offer immunizations and immunization records that are required to attend Metro Schools. Immunizations are offered Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on a walk-in basis. The Health Department’s Dental Clinic and birth certificates are located at the Lentz Health Center. We offer the following services at all three of our health centers:

  • Immunizations
  • Family Planning
  • Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC)
  • Head Lice Checks

The Health Department does not offer primary care or school physicals. We have a list of health care providers that offer those services in the community.
