“We have smoke-free apartments for many reasons; first, the cost. We prefer to spend less on cleaning out a property that is smoke-free as opposed to one that is basically a very expensive renovation because of a previous tenant who smoked. Second, we believe it comes down to being respectful of another person's property. Living near a smoker can be intrusive to other tenants rights to be healthy, and it is hard to lease apartments to non-smokers that are adjacent to apartments where the resident smokes. To me, it is a huge liability to have smoking apartments.”

Metro Public Health Department conducted a 2015 survey of renters in Davidson County about their views on smoking. Read the Davidson County renter smoking survey results.
