Metro Career Academy

Metro Career Academy

If you want to complete your high school education but feel work, family and other obligations create barriers too great to overcome, the Career Academy could be the solution you’ve been seeking. It’s free. It’s convenient, and it puts you in the driver seat.

In collaboration with the YWCA, the Mayor’s Office and Metro Human Resources designed this program with you in mind. Class meets each Monday at the Metro Public Works roll call room. HR will work with your department to coordinate your schedule.

Once you sign up for the class, the YWCA will schedule your enrollment pre-test. Results will help the instructor tailor a curriculum just for you. Once classes start, you will receive the math, language arts (including reading and writing) social studies, science and critical thinking skills you’ll need to sit for the HiSET (high school equivalency test). Your instructor will let you know when you are ready to test based on your class performance. You work at your own pace. Some students are ready to test after a few weeks, while it takes others much longer. Average time is about six months.

The YWCA offers HiSET classes at strategic locations throughout the city. This program allows you to go to any of those classes as well to receive additional instruction.
