Each year, on average, an estimated 20 percent of the population in the United States can be infected with the influenza virus, and more than 200,000 people may be hospitalized from complications of the illness. The flu vaccine offers the best way to prevent influenza.
The flu vaccine protects not only the person receiving the vaccine but also his or her family, friends and coworkers. Flu vaccine is available as an injection and is widely available throughout Nashville, including any of the three Metro Public Health Department’s Health Centers:
Flu shots are available at the Health Centers Monday-Friday. They are also available at area pharmacies, walk-in clinics and medical provider’s office. The Metro Public Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urge annual flu vaccination for everyone over six months of age.
