Make A Plan

Your may not be together with your family when a disaster strikes, so it is important to plan in advance. Ask yourself these question:

How will you get to a safe place?

How will you contact one another?

How will you reunite?

What will you do in different situations?

With the hustle and bustle in our daily lives, it is important to inquire about emergency plans at places where your family spends a lot of their time, such as at work, daycare and school, faith organizations, sports events etc. Talk to community leaders, your colleagues, neighbors and members of faith or civic organizations about how you can work together in the event of an emergency.

Do you have a family member that has unique needs that may need assistance during an emergency, and perhaps lives on the other side of town? If so, talk to their neighbors or loved ones and make plans on who can assist them if you can not reach them. Same thing if you have a neighbor that may be elderly and alone and might need assistance, but doesn't have any family close to assist. Make contact with your neighbor and others in the neighborhood to make a plan to assist if an emergency happens.

You will be better prepared to safely reunite your family and loved ones during an emergency if you think ahead and communicate with others in advance.
