Site Interest

I am interested in these sites (select as many as you wish, indicating your preference with first choice, second choice, etc.):

Scholars Academy Staff Positions
English and Math Leaders

The English and Math Leaders will couple engaging methods with knowledge of the respective subject standards, to familiarize and prepare the Scholars for Algebra or Geometry, or strengthen their reading and writing skills. For rising 11th graders, the English and Math Leaders will use engaging methods to prepare them for the substance of the Math or English and Reading topics and skills covered by the ACT.

Additionally, each English Leader and Math Leader will lead a non-academic, “enrichment” activity with a small group of students for one hour each day. Each site will collectively offer a range of enrichment activities, and each Leader will draw on his or her own interests and abilities. Examples include art, drumming, gardening, dance, spoken word, and wellness.

All teachers must be high school certified for their subject, and we are ideally seeking teachers with a level of effectiveness (if available) of 3, 4, or 5.

Each Leader is responsible for leading a group of scholars during field trips.

Site Director

The Site Director will function as the on-site administrator—of program and practicalities. The Site Director is the key liaison among the Teacher Leaders, Parents, Scholars, Project Manager, and Mayor’s Office staff, and will maintain positive relationships with each. The Site Director will participate in the recruitment of the Scholars for the site. The Site Director may participate in the coordination and supervision of field trips. The Site Director will oversee the daily functions and needs of the Scholars Academy site including transportation. The Site Director is responsible for setting a positive, upbeat tone each day, and ensuring that each day runs smoothly, safely, and on schedule. The Site Director is responsible for managing arrival, dismissal, and meal times each day. The Site Director is also responsible for reviewing curriculum, managing the waitlists, and keeping an accurate record of current enrollment to convey to meal staff. The Site Director should be a problem-preventer and problem-solver, and maintain open communication with Project Manager and Mayor’s Office staff. The Site Director may substitute for a Math or English Leader, and may be required to participate in basic summer food training. The Site Director will also be required to comply with and enforce the MSA Code of Conduct.

Assistant Site Director

The Assistant Site Director will assist the Site Director, may assist during classes, and may substitute for Math or English Leaders. The A.S.D. may be required to participate in basic summer food training. The A.S.D. may participate in the coordination and supervision of field trips. The A.S.D must also comply with and enforce the MSA Code of Conduct. The A.S.D will also be responsible for planning parent nights and assisting with enrichment activities as needed. Also, the A.S.D will be expected to coordinate supply ordering when needed.
