EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 45
THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY

SUBJECT: Mayor's Office of New Americans
I, Karl Dean, Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me, do hereby find, direct and order the following:
I. The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County engages in a variety of activities that impact immigrants and refugees (“New Americans”) throughout the County; and
II. These activities should be carried out in an efficient and coordinated manner in order to empower and engage New Americans and promote a knowledgeable, safe and connected community; and
III. The Mayor’s Office of New Americans will foster partnerships and collaborations with community organizations and with departments and agencies of the Metropolitan Government;
1. There is a Mayor’s Office of New Americans (“Office”) for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
2. The Mayor’s Office of New Americans has the following functions and duties:
a. Developing and administering programs that empower and engage New Americans in Davidson County and that promote a knowledgeable, safe and connected community;
b. Coordinating with community organizations and with departments and agencies of the Metropolitan Government; and
c. Advising the Mayor on policies related to New Americans in Davidson County.
3. In order to carry out and facilitate the Office’s general purposes, the Mayor may select a Director and other staff as necessary. The Director shall have the following duties:
a. To be responsible for the supervision, direction and control of the work performed by the Office;
b. To coordinate among Metropolitan Government departments, agencies and officials as necessary to meet the objectives of the Office.
4. The Office serves at the pleasure of the Mayor. The Mayor can change any provision of this Executive Order, including but not limited to the existence of the Office, at any time.
