An ordinance repealing Chapter 2.160 of the Metropolitan Code and abolishing the Community Education Commission, effective July 1, 2020.
WHEREAS, the Community Education Commission was created by Ordinance BL2009-501 of the Metropolitan Council, which is now codified as Chapter 2.160 of the Metropolitan Code; and,
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Community Education Commission is to oversee the operation of a community education program; and,
WHEREAS, many of the citizens who are serviced by the Community Education Commission have numerous on-line alternatives to receive comparable educational assistance; and
WHEREAS, the Community Education Commission provides a discretionary program outside the scope of the Metropolitan Charter, and given broader financial challenges, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County can no longer afford the costs associated with providing the community education program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That Chapter 2.160 of the Metropolitan Code is hereby repealed in its entirety and the Community Education Commission is hereby abolished effective on November 1, 2009.
Section 2. That this Ordinance shall take effect as of July 1, 2020, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
