Bill BL2019-1601 (as amended)

An ordinance to amend Section 4.12.230 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws relative to contracts for government relations and lobbying services.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That Section 4.12.230 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws is hereby amended by adding the following new provisions as subsections A and B thereto, and renumbering the existing subsections as necessary:

A. The metropolitan government shall not enter into or extend a contract for government relations or lobbying services with any individual or any entity that is also party to a contract that provides advice, counsel, or government relations or lobbying services in support of any measure that has the effect or goal of diverting public funds away from the metropolitan Nashville public school system.

B. All contracts entered into or extended by the metropolitan government for government relations or lobbying services shall include a clause that terminates the contract within ninety (90) days or less should the contracted party enter into a contract to provide advice, counsel, government relations, or lobbying services in support of any measure that has the effect or goal of diverting public funds away from the metropolitan Nashville public school system.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
