Resolution RS2019-1864

A resolution recognizing Joseph (Joey) Anthony Syracuse upon the occasion of his earning the Eagle Scout Award.

WHEREAS, Mr. Joseph (Joey) Anthony Syracuse joined Cub Scout Pack 43 at Dodson Elementary School in 2009 while in First Grade and, through his diligent and determined effort, began to consistently rise through the ranks of Scouting -- earning Bobcat in September 2009, Wolf in May 2010, Bear in February 2011, Webelos in February 2012, and earning Cub Scout’s highest honor, Arrow of Light, in February 2013; and

WHEREAS, Joey chose to join Boy Scout Troop 777 in March 2013, and he quickly became an active member of the troop, rising through the ranks by earning Tenderfoot in May 2014, Second Class in August 2014, First Class in July 2015, Star in February 2016, and Life in March 2017; and

WHEREAS, as a member of Troop 777, Joey earned a wide assortment of merit badges, including Environmental Science, First Aid, Emergency Preparation, Wilderness Survival, Citizenship in the Community, Nation and World, Wood Carving, Welding, Leatherwork, and Space Exploration -- which he earned for the completion of Advanced Space Camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, with his grandfather’s guidance, Joey chose as his Eagle Project the construction of a pedestrian bridge over a natural spring by the Two Rivers Mansion, furthering efforts by the Friends of Two Rivers Mansion to create new trails around this historic property. The bridge was successfully engineered and constructed to last for generations for all to enjoy and use as part of their discovery of one of Nashville’s foundational historic sites; and

WHEREAS, on Sunday, July 14th, 2019, Joey joined an elite class of less than 4% of all Scouts when he completed his path to earning his Eagle Scout rank by successfully completing his Board of Review. He now prepares to conduct his Eagle Court of Honor ceremony at Two Rivers Mansion where he will celebrate this landmark accomplishment with family, friends, peers, and community; and

WHEREAS, Joey’s achievements and success in Scouting and other endeavors are attributable to many factors, including his own resolute determination. But the influence of his supportive and loving parents and family played no small role, and Joey’s achievements are no doubt a testament to his proud parents’ own devotion to their beloved son.
