A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Department of Finance to investigate the appropriation of an amount not to exceed $20,000 to Box 55 Association for reimbursement of fuel costs for volunteers.
WHEREAS, the Box 55 Association was organized as the Nashville Fire Buff Club in 1952 and has served the men and women of the Nashville Fire Department for over 65 years; and
WHEREAS, Box 55 provides services to all First Responders of the Metropolitan Government, including Fire, Police, Emergency Medical Services, and the Office of Emergency Management; and
WHEREAS, Box 55 is staffed entirely by volunteers and operates on donations, providing rehab services to First Responders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year; and
WHEREAS, when arriving to an incident scene, one to two volunteers arrive in a customized response truck outfitted to provide services, but most volunteers arrive to the scene in their personal vehicles; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Government recognize the contribution of these volunteers and pledge to provide some reimbursement for the fuel costs incurred by volunteers who use their personal vehicles; and
WHEREAS, a donation not to exceed $20,000 to Box 55 would help offset these costs; and
WHEREAS, Metro is authorized pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated § 7-3-314 and Metropolitan Code of Laws § 5.04.070 to provide grants to nonprofit organizations; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Department of Finance should investigate an annual appropriation of an amount not to exceed $20,000 to Box 55 for reimbursement of fuel costs for volunteers and provide the Council with a recommendation no later than October 1, 2018.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Department of Finance to investigate authorization of an annual appropriation not to exceed $20,000 to Box 55 Association in order to reimburse volunteers for the cost of fuel and provide the Council with a recommendation no later than October 1, 2018.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
