A resolution honoring the first responders who assisted Nashville in the aftermath of the devastating tornado of March 3, 2020.
WHEREAS, on March 3, 2020, tornados tore through Middle Tennessee, leaving 25 people dead and thousands of homes and businesses damaged or destroyed; and
WHEREAS, when tragic natural disasters like this occur, our city relies on the bravery and quick work of first responders; and
WHEREAS, our first responders are sent into the most dangerous areas to assist those most impacted by the tornados; and
WHEREAS, first responders got to work early Tuesday morning, helping to secure the impacted areas, assisting those who were injured, helping with damaged and collapsed buildings, and removing trees; and
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, March 3, Director Chief William Swann reported that the Nashville Fire Department received more than 400 calls and transferred more than 150 people to local hospitals for medical attention; and
WHEREAS, Metropolitan Nashville Police Department officers have been protecting homes and properties, worked 12-hour shifts in the immediate response, and have had all officers report for duty; and
WHEREAS, it is important that the Metropolitan Council take time to thank these first responders and recognize their continued efforts in helping Nashville recover from the devastation of the tornado.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the first responders who assisted Nashville in the aftermath of the devastating tornado of March 3, 2020.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
