Resolution RS2018-1360
A resolution recognizing Laquita R. Stribling as District Governor 2018-19 for Rotary District 6760.
WHEREAS, Laquita Stribling is a native of Marianna, Arkansas and received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arkansas, and subsequently went on to obtain a Master of Public Administration from the University of Memphis; and
WHEREAS, in 1996, Ms. Stribling joined Randstad USA in an entry-level position and is now Senior Vice President, and responsible for four districts and nine offices across three states; and
WHEREAS, Laquita Stribling has always sought to serve in her community, and continues to do so with her work for the Rotary Club; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stribling first joined the Rotary Club as a member of the Jackson Club in 1997, and served on its Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, in 2003, Laquita Stribling joined the Rotary Club of Nashville and served as a Board Member; and
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Nashville was organized on November 19, 1913, and Charter Number 94 was granted to the Club on February 1, 1914; and
WHEREAS, for over 100 years, the Rotary Club of Nashville and its members have provided organized community service for those in need; and
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Nashville is a member of the Rotary District 6760 and is the third-largest Club in the world with over 590 members; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stribling served as President of the Rotary Club of Nashville in 2014-15, making her the first African-American female, the second African-American, and fifth female to lead the Club in its first 100 years; and
WHEREAS, during her time with the Rotary Club of Nashville, Laquita Stribling led the effort to raise a record $300,000 to fund local community projects; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stribling also spearheaded the creation of a strategic plan to intentionally and proactively seek and attract more women, people of color, younger people, and individuals from more varied industries to the Rotary Club to establish a more diverse and inclusive organization; and
WHEREAS, in 2016, Laquita Stribling was elected to serve as District Governor for Rotary District 6760; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stribling will have the honor of serving as District Governor in 2018-19, making her the first African-American female and third female to serve in this significant position; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Ms. Laquita Stribling for her leadership, contributions, and dedicated service to the Rotary Club, and congratulate her on the honor of serving as District Governor in 2018-19.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Laquita R. Stribling as District Governor for Rotary District 6760 in 2018-19.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
