WHEREAS, on March 3, 2020, tornados tore through Middle Tennessee, leaving 25 people dead and thousands of homes and businesses damaged or destroyed; and

WHEREAS, the loss of life could have been much worse if not for the quick response of the media, who warned residents of Middle Tennessee before the tornados hit and kept them updated throughout the event; and

WHEREAS, in the wake of the tragedy, the media have also been spreading awareness of the destruction and how others can help those affected; and

WHEREAS, through newspapers, television stations, websites, and social media, members of the media have helped to tell the stories of those impacted, kept the public informed about what areas to avoid and which organizations need assistance, and spread the word about what resources are available to those impacted by the natural disaster; and

WHEREAS, in the wake of a natural disaster, local news is essential to keeping the public informed and aware of what is happening, and partnering with local government to make sure the most accurate information is broadcast to a wide audience; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council recognizes the time and effort that members of the media have provided in the wake of the March 3 tornados and thanks them for their contributions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
