A resolution requesting that the Davidson County Sheriff, the Nashville Fire Department Chief, and the Director of Public Property Administration declare properties at 500 and 506 Second Avenue North to be surplus upon the vacancy thereof.
WHEREAS, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Administrative Headquarters are currently located at 506 2nd Avenue North in Nashville, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, the Nashville Fire Department Station 2 is currently located at 500 Second Avenue North in Nashville, Tennessee, adjacent to the DCSO Administrative Headquarters; and
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that by early 2020, the current DCSO Administrative Headquarters facility will be vacated upon completion of the new Criminal Justice Center. Likewise , it is anticipated that within the next two (2) years, the Nashville Fire Department Station 2 will likewise vacate its current location and relocate to 800 Second Avenue North; and
WHEREAS, these adjacent parcels, located along the 500 block of Second Avenue North, offer significant real estate development value potential. Accordingly, the sale of these properties to private development interests could generate significant revenues for the Metropolitan Government; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that, upon the vacancy of these properties by the Davidson County Sheriff’s office and Nashville Fire Department respectively, that these properties be declared surplus and offered for sale by the Director of Public Property Administration.
WHEREAS, Section 2.24.250.A of the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides that the determination of whether real property should be declared surplus lies within the discretion of the director or other chief administrative officer of the department that has custody or use of the property.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as requesting -- upon the vacancy of 500 and 506 Second Avenue North by the Nashville Fire Department and Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, respectively -- that Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall, Nashville Fire Department Chief William Swann, and Director of Public Property Administration Steve Berry declare these properties to be surplus for purposes of eventual sale.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall, Nashville Fire Department Chief William Swann, and the Director of Public Property Administration Steve Berry.
Section 3. The Director of Public Property Administration is further requested to respond to the Council as to the feasibility of the request stated in Section 1 hereof within sixty (60) days from the adoption of this Resolution.
Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
