Resolution RS2019-1862

A resolution appropriating a total of $200,000 from the Office of Family Safety, $200,000 from the Public Library, $200,000 from Social Services, $200,000 from the Juvenile Court, $200,000 from the Health Department to various nonprofit organizations selected to receive Community Partnership Fund grants.

WHEREAS, Section 7-3-314 of the Tennessee Code Annotated states that metropolitan forms of government may provide financial assistance to nonprofit organizations in accordance with the guidelines of the Metropolitan Government; and,

WHEREAS, Section 5.04.070 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides that the Council may, by Resolution, appropriate funds for the financial aid of nonprofit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, the Office of Family Safety, the Public Library, Social Services, the Juvenile Court, and the Health Department have accepted applications from nonprofit organizations to receive Community Partnership Fund grants; and,

WHEREAS, the Mayor has accepted the recommendations of the Office of Family Safety that $200,000 in Community Partnership Fund grants should be disbursed to specific nonprofit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, the Mayor has accepted the recommendations of the Public Library that $200,000 in Community Partnership Fund grants should be disbursed to specific nonprofit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, the Mayor has accepted the recommendations of Social Services that $200,000 in Community Partnership Fund grants should be disbursed to specific nonprofit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, the Mayor has accepted the recommendations of the Juvenile Court that $200,000 in Community Partnership Fund grants should be disbursed to specific nonprofit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, the Mayor has accepted the recommendations of the Health Department that $200,000 in Community Partnership Fund grants should be disbursed to specific nonprofit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that these funds be appropriated to these nonprofit organizations.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. There is hereby appropriated Two Hundred Thousand dollars ($200,000) from the Office of Family Safety to nonprofit organizations as follows:

$50,000 to AGAPE for Domestic Violence Reduction;

$50,000 to Mary Parrish for Domestic Violence Reduction;

$50,000 to The Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence for Domestic Violence Reduction; and,

$50,000 to Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee for Domestic Violence Reduction.

Section 2. There is hereby appropriated Two Hundred Thousand dollars ($200,000) from the Public Library to nonprofit organizations as follows:

$20,665 to Bridges for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing for Literacy Programs;

$20,665 to Catholic Charities for Literacy Programs;

$14,015 to Communities in Schools for Literacy Programs; and,

$20,665 to Fannie Battle for Literacy Programs;

$20,665 to Moves & Grooves for Literacy Programs;

$20,665 to Nashville Adult Literacy Council for Literacy Programs; and,

$20,665 to Nashville Public Library Foundation for Literacy Programs;

$20,665 to Nations Ministry for Literacy Programs;

$20,665 to Project Transformation for Literacy Programs; and,

$20,665 to East Nashville Hope Exchange for Literacy Programs.

Section 3. There is hereby appropriated Two Hundred Thousand dollars ($200,000) from the Juvenile Court to nonprofit organizations as follows:

$50,000 to Oasis Center of Nashville for the REAL Program;

$35,000 to Stars Nashville for the YODA Program;

$30,000 to Meharry Medical College, RWJF Center for Health Policy, for the Aggressors, Victims, Bystanders (AVB) Program; and,

$40,000 to Mt. Carmel MBC for the Gentlemen Not Gangsters Program;
$40,000 to Nashville Youth for Christ for Find Design Program; and

$5,000 to Be About Change for Youth Violence Reduction.

Section 4. There is hereby appropriated Two Hundred Thousand dollars ($200,000) from Social Services to nonprofit organizations as follows:

$37,000 to NeedLink Nashville for Economic Prosperity Programs;

$37,000 to OSDTN for Economic Prosperity Programs;

$37,000 to Safe Haven Family Shelter for Economic Prosperity Programs;

$15,000 to Catholic Charities for Economic Prosperity Programs;

$37,000 to Bridges for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for Economic Prosperity Programs; and,

$37,000 to Nashville State Community College Foundation for Economic Prosperity Programs.

Section 5. There is hereby appropriated Two Hundred Thousand dollars ($200,000) from the Health Department to nonprofit organizations as follows:

$50,000 to Oasis Center of Nashville for Community Health Programs;

$25,000 to Martha O’Bryan Center for Community Health Programs;

$50,000 to The Nashville Food Project for Community Health Programs;

$25,000 to Siloam Health for Community Health Programs; and,

$50,000 to Trevecca Nazarene University for Community Health Programs.

Section 6. The Metropolitan Government is hereby authorized to enter into a grant contract for fiscal year 2020 with the nonprofit organizations listed in Sections 1 through 5 above for the amount provided herein for the purposes stated. Such contract shall specify the terms and conditions under which the grant funds are to be spent.

Section 7. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
