Resolution RS2020-497

A resolution recognizing the 25th anniversary of Marguerite’s Sewing School.

WHEREAS, this year marks the 25th anniversary of Marguerite’s Sewing School, a well-loved small business in the Berry Hill neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, Marguerite Leblanc established Marguerite’s Sewing School in 1996 and provides sewing courses to students of different ages and skill levels; and

WHEREAS, Marguerite was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and sewed her first garment in seventh grade; and

WHEREAS, Marguerite received her official sewing instruction from Watkins College of Art here in Nashville, Tennessee, and later went on to teach at the college for ten years; and

WHEREAS, over the years, the sewing school has grown and now has multiple sewing instructors including Marguerite’s own daughter; and

WHEREAS, Marguerite keeps current in the world of sewing by attending workshops and is a member of the Costume Society of America, the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals, and the American Sewing Guild; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville community is lucky to have a unique and vibrant small business that keeps the skill of sewing alive for generations to come; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and celebrates the 25th anniversary of Marguerite’s Sewing School and wishes them many more years of continued success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 25th anniversary of Marguerite’s Sewing School.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
