A resolution recognizing David Smith for his eight years of service as Juvenile Court Clerk to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
WHEREAS, David Smith is a native Nashvillian, was raised in the Madison area, attended Madison High School, and subsequently attended Austin Peay State University; and
WHEREAS, in 1990, David Smith began his career with the Metropolitan Government of Nashville in the office of then Mayor Bill Boner; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith gained experience working for the late Judge Jim Everett from 1991-1995, and Judge Frank Clement from 1995-1998; and
WHEREAS, in 1998, David Smith joined the staff of General Sessions Court where he remained until he left to run his campaign for Juvenile Court Clerk; and
WHEREAS, after his election, David Smith was sworn into office as Juvenile Court Clerk on September 1, 2010; and
WHEREAS, David Smith went on to serve two consecutive terms as Juvenile Court Clerk; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Mr. Smith spearheaded many initiatives that helped modernize the Juvenile Court Clerk’s Office, including, scanning all files dating back 15 years up to the present day, automating the bookkeeping division, and developing detailed guidelines for all jobs and responsibilities in the office; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of David Smith, the entire filing system was updated and consolidated in 2011, and the groundwork has been laid for electronic filing of documents in 2019; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his duties as Juvenile Court Clerk, David Smith has been the lead sponsor for the yearly Metro Retirees Holiday Luncheon in December; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes David Smith for his many years of committed service to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing David Smith for his dedicated service as Juvenile Court Clerk to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to David Smith.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
