Resolution RS2020-387

A resolution requesting the Director of Finance, the Director of Human Resources, and the Metropolitan Civil Service Commission to take the actions necessary to approve the creation of a Chief Diversity Officer and Workforce Diversity Manager as classified service positions within the Metropolitan Government, and to submit an ordinance to the Metropolitan Council to create the positions. 

WHEREAS, over the past several years, Members of the Metropolitan Council, the minority business community, and members of the public have advocated for the creation of a Chief Diversity Officer and a Workforce Diversity Manager as classified service positions within the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, the creation of these positions as civil service positions would show the Metropolitan Government’s willingness to improve relations with the minority business community and to further promote diversity within the Metropolitan Government workforce; and

WHEREAS, Section 12.10 of the Metropolitan Charter provides that whenever it may be deemed desirable to create any new position in the Metropolitan Government, the director or head of the department affected shall present a request in writing to the mayor and the civil service commission for investigation; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council respectfully requests that the necessary actions be taken to create positions of Chief Diversity Officer and Workforce Diversity Manager as soon as possible.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Director Finance and the Director of Human Resources to submit a request to the Civil Service Commission for the creation of a Chief Diversity Officer position in the Department of Finance and a Workforce Diversity Manager position in the Department of Human Resources.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Civil Service Commission is requested to approve the creation of the positions of Chief Diversity Officer and Workforce Diversity Manager, and to submit an ordinance to the Metropolitan Council providing for the creation of these positions.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this resolution to Finance Director Kevin Crumbo, Human Resources Director Shannon Hall, and to each member of the Metropolitan Civil Service Commission.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
