Resolution RS2018-1281

A resolution authorizing a grant to The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Inc., for the purpose of conducting a well-being survey of the residents of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee. 

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County is vitally interested in the well-being of its citizens; and,

WHEREAS, a well-being survey is a foundational, community-wide survey of the health of Nashville and Davidson County residents; and,

WHEREAS, the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Inc., is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1991 and its aim is to identify and support the critical needs of the residents of Middle Tennessee; and,

WHEREAS, The University of Illinois at Chicago Survey Research Lab is a research and service unit that provides survey research services to academic institutions, local, state, and federal agencies, and others working in public interest and has been recognized nationally for its work; and,

WHEREAS, The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Inc. has partnered with The University of Illinois at Chicago Survey Research Lab to complete a comprehensive well-being survey for the residents of Nashville and Davidson County; and,

WHEREAS, the grant process has conformed to the requirements of Tennessee law; and,

WHEREAS, Section 7-3-314 of the Tennessee Code Annotated states that metropolitan forms of government may provide financial assistance to a nonprofit organization in accordance with the guidelines of the Metropolitan Government; and,

WHEREAS, Section 5.04.070 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws provides that the Metropolitan Council may, by Resolution, appropriate funds for the financial aid of nonprofit organizations; and,

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Board of Health has recommended the provision of grant funds to assist the Community Foundation in the survey of Nashville and Davidson County Residents; and

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant be approved.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. There is hereby appropriated $50,000, from Metropolitan Public Health Department budget, to fund a grant to The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Inc.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County is hereby authorized to enter into the grant contract attached hereto and incorporated herein, with The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Inc., for the grant amounts designated therein.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
