Resolution RS2018-1284

A resolution recognizing and honoring Sandra K. Brown.

WHEREAS, Sandra K. Brown has been a strong figure of influence and inspiration to the Nashville community for sixteen years; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Brown, a business financial analyst, has volunteered as the Chief Financial Officer for the African American Culture Alliance (AACA) for over ten years; and

WHEREAS, the AACA was founded in 1983 by several African American community members in Nashville, Tennessee, and is an organization committed to celebrating and connecting the extensions of Africa to America by way of education, arts, business, family and community; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Brown has raised thousands of dollars through her grant writing and notable fundraising expertise, and has diligently worked to obtain donations from various sponsors on behalf of the AACA; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Brown executes many tasks such as creating budgets, organizing volunteer committees, acquiring vendors, collecting payments and distributing packets of information on behalf of the African American Cultural Alliance; and

WHEREAS, in addition, Ms. Brown also performs secretarial duties such as responding to inquiries, and scheduling all AACA Black History tours for universities, businesses, high schools, and church groups; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Brown also serves as AACA Assistant Tour Director and is often called upon to provide information and educational resources to constituents; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Brown assists with the development of annual Kwanza programs and actively involves the AACA; and

WHEREAS, during AACA events, Ms. Brown supervises volunteer staff, and maintains both the AACA office and headquarters tent for customer services, vendor check-ins, security patrols, and city code compliance; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Brown also finds time to volunteer as judge on behalf of the AACA for high school and collegiate curriculum programs; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Ms. Sandra K. Brown for her many years of unconditional support and service to the AACA, and for furthering their mission to enhance the awareness of the cultural and historical background of people of African descent.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and honoring Sandra K. Brown for her service to the African American Culture Alliance and to the city of Nashville.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Sandra K. Brown.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
