Man Arrested for April 2019 Murder at the Elks Lodge on Jefferson Street

Fifteen months after the murder of Robert Shields, 38, in the parking lot of the Elks Lodge at 2614 Jefferson Street, one of the two men indicted in the case is now in custody.

Dvontay Hyde, 28, was arrested at a Brickdale Lane home Thursday night on a grand jury indictment charging him with first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery. He is jailed in lieu of $250,000 bond. Hyde’s co-defendant, James C. Jones, 23, remains at large.

The investigation shows that Shields was leaving the lodge on Sunday morning, April 28, 2019, carrying money related to a Saturday night party when he was confronted and fatally shot.

Jones is also wanted for the February 7, 2019 murder of Deshawn Ellison, 23, who was fatally shot at a 9th Avenue North apartment.

Anyone seeing James C. Jones or knowing his whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
