Murder Victim Found Wednesday in a Burned Campsite Tentatively Identified

The man whose remains were found Wednesday in a burned campsite in the 800 block of 6th Avenue South has been tentatively identified as Rodney J. McCoy, 55. The Medical Examiner’s Office will work with McCoy’s brother to confirm his identity through DNA analysis.
Central Precinct detectives late Wednesday night charged David Dwayne Williams, 27, with criminal homicide for killing McCoy. During an interview, Williams admitted to being involved in a dispute with McCoy and striking him with a machete.
