Apparent Random Confrontation Leads to Murder of Man on Horton Avenue in Edgehill

The man who killed Tony Terrell Bonds just after midnight in the 1100 block of Horton Avenue in Edgehill shot him in the head and then ran over him before fleeing the area in a late model white sedan, possibly a Ford Fusion. Midtown Hills Precinct detectives are working to confirm the man’s identity and locate the car. The suspect is described as a black man in his late teens or early 20s who is approximately 5’5” tall. He wore a white t-shirt and blue jeans. It appears that Bonds, 44, did not know his killer.

The investigation shows that Bonds and a female friend were walking toward an apartment building when the suspect apparently started a random confrontation with Bonds, who was shot after a brief physical altercation. The shooter got into the white car, reversed out of a parking spot in front of 1142 Horton Avenue, and ran over Bonds. A woman who had been standing outside with the suspect fled the scene in a black pickup truck.

Photos of the suspect’s getaway car are attached. Anyone knowing who was driving the car in the Edgehill area Friday night or where it is now is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Anyone knowing the identity of the woman who fled in the black pickup truck is also asked to contact Crime Stoppers. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
