Robertson County Man Arrested for Vehicular Homicide Stemming from 2019 Crash

Stephen Avrit, 61, of Greenbrier, Tennessee, is now in the Metro Jail on a grand jury indictment charging him with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault stemming from a van crash on July 11, 2019, that resulted in the death of Betty Clark, 77, of Nashville, who was confined to a wheel chair.

Avrit was booked on the indictment early today.

The investigation shows that Avrit was driving a Chrysler van on behalf of a transportation service for disabled individuals. He was traveling on Briley Parkway in West Nashville during a rain storm when he lost control. The vehicle rolled and struck a rock wall. Clark died as the result of injuries from the crash on July 17, 2019. Clark’s nurse, Kathy Howell, 71, and Avrit were not critically hurt.

Avrit’s blood alcohol level on the day of the crash was determined to be more than twice the legal limit.
