66% of Last Week's Stolen Vehicles Taken with Keys

A review of stolen vehicle reports in Nashville from Sunday, November 29, through Saturday, December 5, shows that 66% of the automobiles taken (37 of 56) were easy targets because the keys were left inside or made available to thieves. Eight of the 56 vehicles stolen were left running without the driver present.

During this reporting time period, a total of 16 guns were stolen from vehicles; six of those vehicles were left unlocked. So far this year, 712 guns have been stolen from vehicles.

The number of guns stolen from vehicles last week by precinct are North (3), South (4), Central (4), East (2), and Hermitage (3).

The police department’s continuing PARK SMART campaign strongly urges citizens to lock their automobile doors, secure any valuables---including guns, and REMOVE THE KEYS.
