12/10/2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Detectives are working to identify two auto burglary suspects after shots were fired at an off-duty officer who was attempting to follow a suspect SUV in the 4000 block of Longfellow Drive.

South Precinct Detective Adam Earle was in uniform in his unmarked police vehicle after working a secondary employment shift, when he passed a dark colored SUV at 9:15 p.m. and saw two young men approaching parked vehicles and pulling on door handles. Detective Earle turned around to investigate and the SUV quickly drove off. Detective Earle, who did not activate his emergency equipment, began to follow the vehicle. At the intersection of Delta Queen Drive and Frost Drive, he suddenly heard multiple gun shots come from the area of the SUV. Detective Earle’s vehicle was struck once in the front bumper. He stopped and called for assistance.

Home video surveillance show at least four suspects are involved in the auto burglaries. Anyone who recognizes the suspect(s) from the attached surveillance photos is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
