Pedestrian Fatally Injured While Crossing Nolensville Pike at Lords Chapel Drive
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The pedestrian fatally injured Monday night when she was hit by a car on Nolensville Pike at the Lords Chapel Drive intersection is identified as Ellen Abbott, 56, who lived nearby.
The investigation to this point shows that Abbott was walking with her husband from their home to a nearby restaurant across Nolensville Pike. They were crossing the street from east to west when Mrs. Abbott was hit at 6:40 p.m. by a 2006 Pontiac G6 sedan being driven by Shannon Holt, 28, of Nashville. Holt told officers that he saw a person in the roadway as he crested a hill and braked in an attempt to avoid the collision. Abbott was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.
Officers are investigating whether speeding was a contributing factor. There is not a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Nolensville Pike and Lords Chapel Drive.
Potential charges against Holt, who showed no signs of impairment, are pending the completion of the investigation and consultation with the District Attorney’s Office.
