Nearly 30 Guns Stolen from Vehicles Last Week; Majority of Stolen Autos Taken with Keys

A review of stolen vehicle reports in Nashville from Sunday, January 3, through Saturday, January 9, shows that 67% of the automobiles taken (35 of 52) were easy targets because the keys were left inside or made available to thieves. Eleven of the 35 vehicles stolen were left running without the driver present.

During this reporting time period, a total of 29 guns were stolen from vehicles; four of those vehicles were left unlocked.

The number of guns stolen from vehicles last week by precinct are North (2), South (0), Central (3), East (1), West (3), Midtown Hills (6), Madison (3) and Hermitage (11).

The police department’s continuing PARK SMART campaign strongly urges citizens to lock their automobile doors, secure any valuables---including guns, and REMOVE THE KEYS.
