A review of stolen vehicle reports in Nashville from Sunday, January 24, through Saturday, January 30, shows that 63% of the automobiles taken (38 of 60) were easy targets because the keys were left inside or made available to thieves. Six of the 60 vehicles stolen were left running without the driver present.

During this reporting time period, a total of 19 guns were stolen from vehicles; 6 of those vehicles were left unlocked.

The number of guns stolen from vehicles last week by precinct are North (2), South (2), Central (3), East (2), West (0), Midtown Hills (3), Madison (0) and Hermitage (7).

The police department’s continuing PARK SMART campaign strongly urges citizens to lock their automobile doors, secure any valuables---including guns, and REMOVE THE KEYS.
