Heather Markman Now Charged with Two Counts of Vehicular Homicide
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Heather Markman, 39, is now charged with two counts of vehicular homicide by intoxication for the January 27 fatal collision on East Old Hickory Boulevard and Myatt Drive that killed Mary Wood, 93, and her son, Robert Wood, 61.
The preliminary investigation showed that Robert Wood was driving his 2003 Chevrolet Impala north on Myatt Drive when he and the driver of a Chevrolet Equinox traveling east on Old Hickory Boulevard simultaneously entered the intersection and collided. The driver of the Equinox, Heather Markman, 39, crashed head on into the driver’s side of the Impala. Robert Wood died at the scene. His mother, the front seat passenger, was transported to Skyline Medical Center where she died. Markman was also transported to Skyline with non-life threatening injuries.
Markman was charged with DUI the night of the crash but further investigation was needed to determine who had the right of way. According to a witness who was later located and interviewed, Markman ran a red light and crashed into the Impala.
Markman, who was arrested at her home last night, is being held in lieu of $300,000 bond.
