61% of Last Week's Stolen Vehicles Taken with Keys

A review of stolen vehicle reports in Nashville from Sunday, January 31, through Saturday, February 6, shows that 61% of the automobiles taken (38 of 62) were easy targets because the keys were left inside or made available to thieves. Eight of the 60 vehicles stolen were left running without the driver present.

During this reporting time period, a total of 11 guns were stolen from vehicles; 2 of those vehicles were left unlocked.

The number of guns stolen from vehicles last week by precinct are North (2), South (0), Central (1), East (0), West (1), Midtown Hills (2), Madison (2) and Hermitage (3).

The police department’s continuing PARK SMART campaign strongly urges citizens to lock their automobile doors, secure any valuables---including guns, and REMOVE THE KEYS.
