78% of Last Week's Stolen Vehicles Taken with Keys

A review of stolen vehicle reports in Nashville from Sunday, February 14, through Saturday, February 20, shows that 78% of the automobiles taken (25 of 32) were easy targets because the keys were left inside or made available to thieves. Thirteen of the 32 vehicles stolen were left running without the driver present.

During this reporting time period, a total of 5 guns were stolen from vehicles.

The number of guns stolen from vehicles last week by precinct are North (0), South (1), Central (3), East (1), West (0), Midtown Hills (0), Madison (0) and Hermitage (0).

The police department’s continuing PARK SMART campaign strongly urges citizens to lock their automobile doors, secure any valuables---including guns, and REMOVE THE KEYS.
