Pedestrian Fatally Injured Friday Night on I-65
April 27, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The pedestrian fatally injured in the southbound lanes of I-65 near Briley Parkway at 8:45 p.m. Friday is identified as Jorge Gonzales, 38, of Mayfield, Kentucky.
The preliminary investigation shows Gonzales was on the inside median of the interstate attempting to cross the roadway when he was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Sean Davis, 40, of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Davis said he was unable to avoid Gonzales, whose vehicle was found parked on the shoulder of the roadway. Gonzales was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
A friend crossing the interstate with Gonzales left the scene before police arrived. He was found later in the night and appeared to be intoxicated. He was interviewed and released.
Davis was uninjured. The preliminary contributing factor to this fatal collision appears to be Gonzales’ presence in the roadway.
