June 13, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Central Precinct detectives this afternoon charged Robert J. Wagner with burglary of a Nashville fire hall during which a firefighter’s wallet was stolen while the crew was out on a call.
Wagner, 41, of Kingston Springs, surrendered himself to police after his parents recognized him in surveillance photos broadcast on television last night and this morning.
A firefighter from Station 9 on 2nd Avenue South reported that his wallet was missing from a locker room at the station when he returned from a run on May 18th. Detectives subsequently learned that the victim’s credit card was used to purchase two cartons of cigarettes at the Kroger store on Monroe Street. The man making the cigarette buy, now known to be Wagner, was recorded by the store’s surveillance system.
Wagner told investigators that he ran out of gas near the fire hall on May 18th and decided to go inside. He is jailed in lieu of $5,000 bond on charges of burglary and fraudulent use of a credit card.
