Woman Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-440
July 21, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The at-fault driver killed in this afternoon’s four-vehicle collision on I-440 west near the West End Avenue exit has been tentatively identified as a 37-year-old Antioch woman. Her name is being withheld until family is located and notified.
The crash occurred at 1:15 p.m. when an eastbound 1997 Lincoln Town Car being driven by the woman crossed the center berm for an unknown reason and entered the westbound traffic lanes. The Lincoln initially collided with a 2010 Ford F-150 that was pulling a utility trailer. The impact sent the pickup truck across all lanes of traffic to the right side of the roadway.
The driver of a 2002 GMC Yukon, which was traveling behind the pickup truck, attempted to swerve to avoid the collision. He was unsuccessful. The Yukon struck the Lincoln and was then hit in the rear by a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu. The Yukon traveled up the center berm, rolled several times and came to rest on its roof in the eastbound lanes of I-440.
The Lincoln driver was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene. The three other drivers involved were belted. They were transported to hospitals with non-critical injuries.
There was no indication at the scene that alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.
