Man Fatally Stabbed During Confrontation at Homeless Camp

A confrontation at a homeless camp in the 1200 block of Gallatin Pike late Wednesday night resulted in the stabbing death of Martin McDonald, 50.
Klayton Eammelli, 58, reported that he stabbed McDonald with a homemade spear during a confrontation with McDonald after, Eammelli said, McDonald tried to carry off a piece of his plywood.
Eammelli called 911 to report the matter at 11:45 p.m. McDonald was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died early today.
Eammelli was detained and taken to the Madison Precinct to be interviewed. After consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, detectives released Eammelli while his claim of self-defense continues to be investigated.
