November 26, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The preliminary investigation into Monday night’s shooting death of 20-year-old Kendrick M. Edwards in a breezeway of Stewarts Ferry Apartments indicates that Edwards was fatally wounded while participating in a robbery of 18-year-old resident Joshua Jones.

Jones reported that he had opened his apartment door to take out the trash when he was confronted by at least two men who tried to rob him at gunpoint.  Jones said a struggle ensued and that he was able to gain control of one suspect’s gun.  Jones then shot Edwards.

Jones retreated to his apartment.  The other suspect(s) fled the scene.

Hermitage Precinct detectives are pursuing meaningful leads as they work to identify the other person or persons with Edwards.

Jones was fully cooperative with police.  No charges have been placed against him.
