April 11, 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A 35-year-old North Nashville man with psychological issues who is alleged to have murdered his uncle inside their 6084 Beals Lane home today will be confined to Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute (MTMHI) pending consultation with the District Attorney’s Office on criminal charges.
Larry Holmes is presently being medically evaluated at General Hospital. His transfer to MTMHI is anticipated in the near future.
Holmes’ uncle, Johnny Odom, 59, appeared to have been severely beaten. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Skyline Medical Center.
The police department was called to the home at 10 a.m. by Metro Health Department representatives and mental health workers who were visiting for separate issues. They reported that Holmes answered the door with blood on his face. They saw considerable blood inside the residence and Odom down on the floor.
North Precinct Officers Nathan Mayo and James Wray responded. Just as they stepped inside and saw Odom, Holmes attacked them and drove them onto the front porch. The officers wrestled with Holmes for a brief time before subduing him.
Mental health workers came to the residence after receiving a report from a relative that Holmes had shoved her and was behaving strangely.
The investigation is continuing.
