Last Weekend's Operation Safer Streets Initiative Netted 32 Arrests

Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place on Friday and Saturday, resulted in 32 arrests involving 29 misdemeanors, one felony and 12 warrants served. Seized were 24 grams of marijuana and one pill.
At least twice a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the seven precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of three SID detectives, six supervisors, 19 patrol officers and two canine officers. Areas targeted were Spence Lane at Murfreesboro Pike, 20th Avenue North, Dickerson Pike, Trinity Lane, Saunders Avenue, Due West Avenue, Bell Road, Stewarts Ferry Pike, Haywood Lane, and Harding Place.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of four SID detectives, eight supervisors, 20 patrol officers and two canine officers. Areas targeted were Brick Church Pike, Fern Avenue, Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, Clay Street, Buena Vista Pike, North 1st Street, and Cass Street.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 926 arrests on 58 felony charges and 882 misdemeanor charges, eleven gun seizures, the service of 253 outstanding warrants, 142 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge and 4,930 vehicle stops in areas with a gang presence.
